In April of 2015, an IndieGogo campaign will launch for THE THING BEFORE THE THING, a semi-scripted dramedy feature film that boasts an improvisational shooting style and a story developed and inspired by the ensemble of actors themselves.

It's about an eclectic ensemble of old college friends that reunite after ten years adrift in their adult lives. They decide to have a gathering the night before a big event and find themselves facing conflicts (old and new) as they reacquaint and survive the night.

TTBTT takes some cues from popular ensemble dramedies such as THE BIG CHILL, PARENTHOOD, AND INDIAN SUMMER.

Instead of the standard scripted format, which most films of this nature adhere to, we are opting to go semi-scripted. We will know the beginnings and ends of all of our story beats, but we will be constructing the dialogue and performances with improvisation with all of our cast.

All of our performers will become a functioning part of the writing process through workshops and rehearsal. We believe this will create something unique and alive as we borrow from both stage and film-making methodologies to craft our story.

Furthermore, we will also be including our film’s CREW in the rehearsal process to configure blocking and an overall ideology of what our film will look like.

With this approach, we feel we can execute a truly unique and entertaining feature with a modest budget and crew.
